About the College

The foundation of Bratsk Pulp and Paper College goes back to February 1963. It was founded to train in-service specialists for one of the largest Russian enterprises “Bratsk Timber Industry Complex”.

The first intake of students was carried out on five specialties, the number of students was 269 people. The first teachers were engineers of timber industry. So, it was the very beginning of training the specialists of Secondary Professional Education for Eastern Siberia in Bratsk. That time the College possessed 20 classrooms, 14 laboratories and a library with about 60 thousand books in it.

In spite of all the difficulties, thanks to strong support of the Bratsk Timber Industry Complex, Bratsk Pulp and Paper College became one of the largest educational institutions of its industrial sector in Irkutsk oblast. In 1999 Bratsk Pulp and Paper College became a structural subdivision of Bratsk State University.

At present, Bratsk Pulp and Paper College occupies more than 32,000 sq. m. and has 30 educational laboratories, 45 classrooms, 9 computer classes, a library with 63 thousand books, a college hall, 3 gyms, a health center, a refectory, educational and industrial workshops and a hostel.

Bratsk Pulp and Paper College has a license for conducting educational activity on 15 specialties. Training is conducted on 12 specialties, including 5 specialties of higher level. The College consists of 3 faculties. They are the Faculty of Mechanics and Technology, the Faculty of Power Engineering , and the Faculty of Correspondence Education.

To get the students practical skills Bratsk Pulp and Paper College has developed strong cooperation with a subsidiary of “Ilim Group” in Bratsk, and with such enterprises as “Ilim Bratsk Woodworking”, “Bratsktekhnoservis”, “Bratsk Forestry”, “Gidroelektromontazh”, “Lesnoy Port”, “Bratsk Repairing and Mechanical Plant”. College graduates are at the head of companies, they work as leading specialists of enterprises and as higher school teachers.

College is proud of its graduates. Among them are Olympic Silver Medalist in bobsleigh A. Zubkov, Director of the Bratsk subsidiary of “Vostsibstroy” S. Toprikov, Director of “Electrotekhnicheskoye Predpriyatiye” S. Semenov, Director of bread-making plant “Niva” A. Kuznetsov and others.

Students of Bratsk Pulp and Paper College take an active part and win various contests, competitions, Olympiads and festivals.

Bratsk Pulp and Paper College has excellent sports facilities and supports its long-standing sports traditions. Sport contest for the title “The Best Sports Group” is conducted every year. College staff has all the possibilities to attend health groups on volleyball, table tennis, badminton and shaping.
