More than 50 years ago a beautiful young town was growing 5,000 km. away from Moscow. A lot of people from all over the world gathered together in the severe area to build Bratsk. To make all the wishes come true the labour of highly-qualified specialists were needed.

In 1957 First Educational Office of Irkutsk branch of All Soviet Correspondence Building-Engineering Institute was opened in Bratsk. Klaudia Georgievna Popova was appointed the Head of the office. Two years after Bratsk Educational Office was handed over Irkutsk Polytechnic Institute.

  • In 1961 Bratsk Educational Office was reorganized into the General Technical Faculty of Irkutsk Polytechnic Institute.
  • In 1963 the Faculty got a new building. It was Educational Building № 1.
  • In 1964 Irkutsk Polytechnic Institute opened up full-time attendance for five specialties.
  • In 1968 the Faculty got Educational Building № 2.
  • In 1969 the Workers' Faculty was established to prepare workers for higher education.
  • In 1972 a new gym was opened.
  • In 1974 the General Technical Faculty of Irkutsk Polytechnic Institute was reorganized into the branch of Irkutsk Polytechnic Institute.

The Head of the branch was N.N. Yatsenko, Doctor of Technical Science, Professor. Educational Building № 3, some workshops and research laboratories and a hostel for students appeared at that time. There were two faculties there: the Faculty of Building Engineering and the Faculty of Mechanics. The educational staff of the branch conducted constant work on setting up an independent institution of higher education.

In 1975 Educational Office in Ust-Kut was opened.

At that time our city was growing much and changing unrecognizably. Its powerful enterprises needed more highly-qualified specialists.

In 1980 the branch of Irkutsk Polytechnic Institute in Bratsk was reorganized into Bratsk Industrial Institute. That event became a very important stage for northern region of Irkutsk Oblast. O.P. Martinenko was appointed the Rector of the Institute.

Bratsk Industrial Institute became one of the leading regional institution of higher education. New faculties were set up. The Institute became to prepare specialists for humane and natural specialization. Those years were marked by creating the University campus, developing research activity, opening post graduate courses, doctoral candidacy and Academic Council.

In 1989 Educational Office in Ust-Kut was reorganized into the General Technical Faculty of Bratsk Industrial Institute.

In 1990 Technical Lycée was opened under Bratsk Industrial Institute. It was the first one in Bratsk.

In 1992 the first issue of the newspaper “Pedagogical Bulletin of Bratsk” was published.

In 1997 the Faculty of Humanities and Pedagogical Sciences was created.

In1999 Bratsk Industrial Institute was reorganized into Bratsk State Technical University. The newspaper “Pedagogical Bulletin of Bratsk” got a new name “Universitet”.

At that time Pulp and Paper College and Pedagogical College were joined to the University.

In 2003 a new rector was elected. Sergey Vladimirovich Belokobylsky was elected the Rector of Bratsk State Technical University.

In 2004 a new life page of our University began. It got a higher status and became Bratsk State University.

For more than 50 years of educational activity Bratsk State University prepared thousands of highly-qualified specialists: mechanical engineers, power engineering specialists, building engineers, forestry engineers, economists, historians, mathematicians…

In 2005 new Educational Building № 4 for the Faculty of Humanities and Pedagogical Sciences was opened.

Nowadays Bratsk State University carries out educational process in four Educational Buildings. Our University does research activity.

We are proud of our graduates – heads and top managers of the largest industrial enterprises of Bratsk and Russia. Our graduates work successfully at government body.
